Pro tip: clean out the fridge and leave it slightly ajar to get rid of and prevent any lingering odors. Deep cleaning helps prevent mold from starting and spreading and allows you to take stock of any perishables that might go bad before your return.
Always Avoid Mold!
Keep the AC on! A well-ventilated and fresh home is a happy home. Ensure you return to a space free from mold and unpleasant surprises with good air circulation and avoiding temperature extremes. Improve air circulation by leaving doors and windows slightly open. Place moisture absorbers in closets and enclosed spaces to keep mold off of clothes and sheets.
To control the humidity inside your home, be sure to set your thermostat to maintain a moderate indoor humidity level. Ideally, we recommend keeping your thermostat between 77 and 78 degrees, but don’t go too hot! Anything 80 degrees and above can actually increase humidity.
If your home is in a humid place, consider using dehumidifiers in areas prone to moisture buildup, like bathrooms.
Protect Pipes
Thinking about your home’s pipes and preparing them properly is essential, especially if you're leaving your home during colder months.
If your home is in an especially cold part of the country where temperatures dip below zero, consider insulating exposed pipes to prevent freezing. Before you leave, be a detective for leaks, drips, and drizzles that could jack up your water bill, or have a professional take a look. Address any potential problems before you leave to avoid water damage.
Or, just turn off the main water line completely! That way, in the case of a pipe breaking you’ll be able to avoid any flooding or mess.
Don’t forget to turn off the water heater if you turn the water off! Adjust the water heater or switch it to ‘vacation mode’ to save energy. For longer trips, consider turning it off completely, so that the tank isn’t just reheating the same water on repeat.
Don’t Forget the Garden!
It might seem like an afterthought, but giving the garden some much-needed attention is high on our snowbird checklist for leaving home. Taking care of the garden before you go is a lot more than a simple vanity project. Although it’s always nice to come home to a lawn that isn’t overgrown, maintaining large trees, bushes, and vines around the property protects your home.
Prune bushes and trees for healthy growth and to ensure there aren’t any hanging widow-makers ready to make holes in your roof. If you’re leaving your home in the summer heat, implement a drip irrigation system or ask a neighbor to water your plants during your absence.

Ingredients
1 cup canned pumpkin
1 cup white sugar
½ cup vegetable oil
1 large egg
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon milk
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
½ teaspoon salt
2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
½ cup chopped walnuts (Optional)
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
Directions
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a baking sheet.
Combine pumpkin, sugar, oil, and egg in a large bowl. Dissolve baking soda into milk in a small bowl and stir in.
Stir together flour, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt in a separate bowl. Add flour mixture to pumpkin mixture and mix well. Add chocolate chips, walnuts, and vanilla; stir just to combine.
Drop by spoonful on the prepared cookie sheet and bake in the preheated oven until lightly brown and firm, approximately 10 minutes.R<br />

Urban Air is another favorite and great for burining off some energetic kiddos. With a 1,4&6 year old they are all able to explore and have fun. With trampolines, obstacle courses, climbing walls, and more, it's a family favorite.
3. DEFY Melbourne Trampoline Park:
DEFY Trampoline Park is another high-energy destination for kids. This indoor trampoline park features dodgeball, foam pits, and challenging ninja courses. Our boys love the foam pit and stacking them as high as they possibly can. They also thoroughly enjoy the fact that Bass Pro shop is right next door and we can peak over and take a look at the animals! And if they are REALLY lucky sometimes Kona Ice is parked out front.
4. Arcade Monsters:
Truly a blast for the kids. The boys are in total heaven when we take them here. One big plus is that it is all you can play after you get a wrist band so they can play for as long as the parents can stand the chaos. This retro-style arcade has a collection of classic and modern arcade games that families can enjoy together. Plus Ian loves playing all the pinball machines and arcade games that he used to love playing as a kid.
5. Coast Line Community Church Playground:
The Coast Line Community Church Playground is a huge hit. It's close to our home AND IT'S BABY FRIENDLY. Aka Hudson can run around and have fun and we don't have to worry constantly that he is eating mulch or sand. And the older boys are still able to run around and have fun. If you have kiddos in a variety of ages like ours this place is for you.
6. The Brevard Zoo:
The Brevard Zoo is one of our favorites espoecially during the fall and winter months. If you are a local with kids it's almost a MUST have membership. We also enjoy going in the summer months but mainly for the water play area as it gets HOT.
7. Local Car Shows:<br />We all love going to car shows especially when they are combined with other family friendly events such as bouce houses and and vendors! If you ever want to know what local car shows are going on check out Brevard County Car Shows on Facebook!

Hounds Town is any dog’s favorite alternative to kennels or traditional dog boarding facilities. In their own words, owners Jane and Leslie describe Hounds Town as “a place where a dog can just be a dog.” They encourage all of the pups who come to Hounds Town to take part in natural pack socializing. In this environment, dogs can truly be themselves. They’re able to follow their own schedules, and play how they want to play; overall it’s a special place that owners and dogs don’t get to see every day.
Traditional Boarding Facilities are Lacking…
Beloved pups deserve top-notch care, so that’s exactly what all attentive owners are looking for: the best for their dogs. While dog boarding facilities may seem like a convenient option, they aren’t always the ideal choice. Every dog owner who’s walked into a loud and chaotic kennel knows that the sensory overload they’re experiencing is tenfold for their pup. Jane and Leslie watch as this independence allows any stress melt away, and the dogs forget that their owner is absent and create relationships with other pups.
Hounds Town is unique because once a pup is vetted, owners don’t need an appointment! Owners can just drop the dogs off whenever it’s convenient. The facilities provide a fully interactive dog daycare, and nighttime boarding in private hotel suites at the end of the day for overnight stays.
How Can I Get My Pup Involved?
Jane and Leslie developed a unique and rigorous process to make sure that each dog in the facility is the right fit. First, the owner will undergo a phone interview, when they will be asked five basic questions about their dog’s socialization history and medical issues.
If the pup passes the phone interview, Hounds Town invites the dog and owner for a free meet-and-greet appointment.
If the dog does well at the meet-and-greet, they will be invited back for a free day of doggy daycare to see how they integrate with the other dogs and see if they need any extra support.
Additionally, Hounds Town has a full salon! They offer de-matting services, de-shedding, ear cleanings, nail trimmings, brush-outs, blowouts, and more! They do not offer haircuts but are able to recommend a range of local businesses that do.
What makes dogs happy is simple: unconditional love and genuine companionship. Dogs are social creatures, and they thrive on interaction and affection.
